COMMON QUESTIONS

Most people film the result. We capture what made it matter.

These are the questions we hear most often about our approach to sports, storytelling, and cinematic production.

UNDERSTANDING REEL KINETIC’S APPROACH

  • Sports already contain everything a great story needs: pressure, uncertainty, sacrifice, triumph, failure, and human emotion.

Our role is to reveal the moments behind the outcome—the decisions, challenges, and turning points that help audiences understand why a moment mattered.

Because when people understand why a moment mattered, they become more emotionally invested in the athletes, teams, and organizations behind it.

The result is stronger audience connection, deeper loyalty, and storytelling that continues working long after the final score.

Because when people understand why a moment mattered, they become more emotionally invested in the athletes, teams, and organizations behind it.

  • Attention is easy to get. Connection is harder to earn.

Today’s audiences are flooded with content. What they remember are the moments, people, and stories that make them care.

Reel Kinetic Media helps teams, athletes, and brands create stronger audience connection by revealing the emotion, pressure, and human story behind performance.

Audiences don’t build loyalty to highlights alone.

    They build loyalty to people.

    To teams.

    To identities.

To stories they feel connected to.

That’s why our work focuses on more than documenting what happened.

We look for the moments that strengthen fan engagement, elevate athlete perception, reinforce brand identity, and create long-term value beyond the event itself.

Because when people understand why a moment mattered, they become more invested in the athletes, teams, and organizations behind it.

If you’re simply looking for event coverage, there are many capable production options available.

If you’re looking to build stronger audience connection, deeper brand identity, and storytelling that continues working long after the final whistle, Reel Kinetic Media was built for that purpose.

  • Most sports media shows what happened. We focus on why it mattered.

    Every team has highlights.

    Every athlete has statistics.

What separates programs, brands, and athletes is the connection people feel toward them.

Many production companies do an excellent job documenting events.

Reel Kinetic Media focuses on helping audiences connect with the people behind the performance.

    The pressure.

    The preparation.

    The sacrifice.

The moments that build loyalty, identity, and emotional investment.

That means looking beyond the final score to find the moments that help fans, recruits, sponsors, and communities care more deeply about the people they support.

If you’re looking for coverage, there are many talented production companies available.

If you’re looking to strengthen identity, deepen audience connection, and create stories that continue working long after the event ends, that’s where Reel Kinetic Media is different.

  • The stronger the connection people feel to your athletes, team, or brand, the more likely they are to remember you.

Reel Kinetic Media focuses on the people, pressure, and purpose behind performance—not just the final result.

By helping audiences understand why a moment mattered, we create storytelling designed to deepen connection and strengthen identity over time.

If your goal is simply documenting activity, there are many capable production options available.

If your goal is helping audiences care more deeply about your athletes, team, or brand, Reel Kinetic Media was built for that purpose.

WORKING WITH REEL KINETIC MEDIA

  • Sometimes. Sometimes not.

Reel Kinetic Media is built to stay lean when speed and flexibility matter—and scale when a project requires additional support.

Many projects are personally directed and filmed by founder John Kreng, allowing for quick decision-making, adaptability, and a consistent creative vision in fast-moving environments.

When a project calls for additional resources, Reel Kinetic Media draws from a trusted network of experienced professionals developed through more than 25 years in filmmaking, television, sports, and live production.

    That may include:

    • additional camera operators

    • audio specialists

    • drone operators

    • production support

    • editors and post-production artists

This approach gives clients the best of both worlds: the efficiency of a small team and the ability to scale when a larger production is needed.

You won’t pay for unnecessary crew when a smaller footprint makes sense.

And when a project demands additional resources, Reel Kinetic Media has the relationships and experience to build the right team for the job.

  • Absolutely. In fact, that’s often where it works best.

Reel Kinetic Media is designed to complement—not replace—your existing media efforts.

While broadcast and in-house teams focus on coverage, highlights, and day-to-day communication, we focus on the moments that help audiences connect more deeply with your athletes, team, or brand.

Together, these approaches create a more complete story—one that captures not only what happened, but why it mattered.

That can help strengthen audience connection, reinforce identity, and extend the value of a moment long after the event ends.

You don’t need to choose between coverage and storytelling.

The strongest organizations often benefit from both.

  • Absolutely.

Every organization has different needs. Some need finished films. Others need raw footage that their internal team can edit and distribute.

Reel Kinetic is comfortable working as a standalone production partner or as an extension of your existing creative team.

For example, many of the projects I shoot for Loyola Marymount University are delivered to their internal staff, who then integrate the footage into their own content ecosystem. My goal is not to replace your team. My goal is to help them tell better stories.

  • Not at all. The event always comes first.

Our approach is designed to be respectful, adaptable, and non-invasive.

Camera placement, movement, and timing are planned to avoid interfering with:

    • Athletes

    • Coaches

    • Officials

    • Existing media teams

    • Broadcast operations

The reality of the event always takes priority.

The storytelling adapts to the competition—not the other way around.

  • Not necessarily. Many cinematic projects can be accomplished with a small, experienced crew.

The size of the production depends on the needs of the project, not the style.

Some projects benefit from a lean footprint that allows greater flexibility in live environments. Others may require additional cameras, audio support, drone operators, or specialized crew.

Reel Kinetic Media is designed to scale appropriately rather than applying the same production model to every project.

The goal isn’t to create a bigger production.

It’s to assemble the right resources for the story, environment, and outcome you’re trying to achieve.

  • Games last a few hours. The relationship with your audience lasts much longer.

Strong storytelling helps teams, athletes, and organizations stay connected to their audience between games, throughout a season, and beyond a single year.

It can help preserve the meaning behind important moments, strengthen identity, highlight culture, and showcase the people behind the performance.

Because while a game may end when the clock expires, the stories, lessons, and memories surrounding it continue to shape how people view a team long afterward.

    The game ends.

    The story doesn’t.

  • Organizations that want to build connection—not just visibility.

This approach is often a strong fit for teams, athletes, brands, and organizations that want audiences to feel more connected to the people behind the performance.

    That may include:

    • athletic programs building identity and culture

    • athletes developing their personal brand

    • organizations seeking deeper audience engagement

    • brands looking to connect through authentic storytelling

    • teams that want their story to live beyond game day

Not every project requires this approach.

Sometimes straightforward coverage is exactly what’s needed.

But when the goal is creating stronger connection, deeper identity, and more meaningful storytelling, that’s where Reel Kinetic Media tends to provide the most value.

The best fit isn’t determined by the sport.

It’s determined by the story you want people to remember.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

FILMMAKING & STORYTELLING

  • The difference isn’t quality. It’s focus.

Content creators are often hired to keep audiences informed, engaged, and consistently updated.

Reel Kinetic Media is typically brought in when the goal is to create a deeper emotional connection to an athlete, team, brand, or story.

    Both approaches have value.

One focuses primarily on maintaining attention.

The other focuses on creating work people remember.

The question isn’t which approach is better.

It’s which approach best serves your goals.

  • We respect platforms. We don’t let them dictate the work.

Different platforms have different requirements, and Reel Kinetic Media understands how to adapt content for modern audiences.

    But trends change.

    Algorithms change.

The need for meaningful connection does not.

Our goal is to create work that strengthens identity, builds audience connection, and remains valuable long after a trend has passed.

That means balancing platform awareness with storytelling, authenticity, and long-term brand value.

    Algorithms may influence distribution.

    They shouldn’t define your identity.

  • The technology gap has narrowed dramatically. The experience gap has not.

Today’s phones and cameras are more capable than ever, and they can absolutely capture important moments.

The difference is rarely the equipment.

It’s preparation, timing, judgment, adaptability, and understanding what matters before, during, and after the moment happens.

Two people can stand in the same place with access to the same technology and create completely different results.

    What matters is:

    • where the camera is placed

    • recognizing tension before it happens

    • understanding the emotional value of a moment

    • making decisions under real-world pressure

    • shaping footage into a meaningful story

    The camera captures the moment.

Experience helps reveal why it mattered.

  • No. They should serve the story.

Slow motion, speed changes, and visual effects are tools—not the destination.

Used thoughtfully, they can help audiences better understand timing, pressure, decision-making, and the significance of a moment.

Visual techniques can help capture attention.

The story is what keeps people invested.

That’s why these tools are used selectively and only when they strengthen the emotional impact or understanding of a moment.

Attention may begin with the image.

Emotional connection is what makes it memorable.

  • Broadcast coverage shows what happened. We help audiences understand why it mattered.

Broadcast teams have the difficult job of documenting the game as it unfolds in real time.

    Our role is different.

We focus on the context, pressure, preparation, and human stories that help audiences connect more deeply with the athletes, teams, and moments behind the event.

This isn’t about replacing broadcast coverage.

It’s about adding another layer of storytelling that extends the life of a moment beyond game day.

    We don’t compete with broadcast.

    We complement it.

  • Traditional coverage shows people what happened. Storytelling helps them understand why it mattered.

    Both approaches have value.

    Coverage captures the event.

Storytelling helps audiences connect more deeply with the athletes, teams, and moments behind the event.

That connection can help strengthen identity, build loyalty, and create lasting value beyond game day.

Which is why many organizations benefit from both.

The score tells people what happened.

The story helps them remember why they cared.

  • Reel Kinetic uses professional cinema cameras, lenses, audio equipment, and post-production tools designed for sports, documentary, commercial, and broadcast-quality productions.

Both the Sony FX3 and FX6 are included on Netflix’s approved camera list and are capable of producing content for broadcast, streaming, commercial, and documentary distribution.

More importantly, equipment is selected based on the needs of the story, environment, and final deliverables rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
